As I have enjoyed such writers as varied as Langston Hughes, Sylvia Plath , Anais Nin, DH Lawrence and many others to many to mention whose writing enthused me to become a writer myself. To date I have written mainly poetry, plays for stage, and radio with themes of family/relationship, dysfunction, personal loss or magic realism . This has been excellent for me as a writer and I have gained some accolades along the way. But there was always the desire, to find an outlet to write literature that was more sensual- erotic indeed playfully provocative. This for me this an opportunity to share the powerful, vicarious pleasure of writing and reading this type of material can afford. It feels wonderfully old fashioned , dangerous even- as to what type of traffic may be attracted to any given subject matter . But thats just it - the whole challenge of it is what is so exciting.
It is the antithesis to the 'Belle Du Jour' type- it is pure fiction that I crave. I must be a romantic then- but that just feels wonderfully liberating in 2010 . Go against the tide I must, to find my own particular oeurve, I know I am not alone in this there are other poets, performers, muscians, writers all manner of artists that I know that feel similarly to me. The men seem to effect to be the very best in terms of 'Dandyism' in men, male divas if you will, it is wonderfully fascinating and well quite fetching . I meet charming women who have got deeply, into expressing the essence of of their femininity with no loss of power or autonomy.
This bohemian 'van guard' have great talent , genuine human warmth and fidelity with a keen sense of fun and wonder. To want to escape is only a natural response to an increasingly technologized world that 'commodifies' and 'brands' well everything etc. The return to the making of things personal, lovingly and uniquely or eccentrcially crafted, or even just for the hell of it is very welcome. There is a need for more randomness than reason e.g. just like this article I started writing about doing a different type of literature, then meandered into commenting on the arts, Leicester in particular. As the native american indians say, to paraphrase ' we - everything is related'. So I will follow my passion in what I do and try a new direction, something new - just because......
