Having just released the third single “Up in the clouds” from the self titled debut album, this is an artist providing a clever, offbeat take on lo-fi pop with an energy that's simply irresistible. Following such an introduction was a melodic, indie dance spectacle featuring more moves than the combined effort of Fame.
Kicking off the set in style with their new single, they received a rapturous reception with the crowd jumping into immediate action setting the tone for an energetic, enthused evening. This is a band that appeared to be having a mutually loving experience with Darwin asking the crowd at multiple opportunities to chant “we love Dave”, who is Dave? Well we don’t know, the point is that he was most definitely part of this artist/audience participator evening; as we all were. This was a band that took us from ‘serious-musician’ mode every other song to kooky dance troupe, performing impromptu dance routines throughout. I’ll admit that their performance wasn’t immaculate but to be honest the crowd didn’t seem to mind and let's face it, it's hard to play the guitar whilst bounding around the stage with more hair and energy than a hyperactive Cocker Spaniel.
If you enjoy melodic indie, and more dance moves than Broadway, then you should definitely catch Darwin Deez live.
