Pakistani Floods Appeal- Art Auction

This month Derby will be showcasing artwork produced by some of the biggest names in the art world. Works by internationally renowned artists such as Jeremy Deller and Julian Opie will be available for purchase, whilst Grayson Perry and Martin Parr have donated signed books all in aid of raising money for the Pakistani Floods Appeal.

The idea to host an event of this stature came from curator and practicing artist
Saira Lloyd. After hearing the stories and witnessing the images of suffering on
the news Saira decided to take action to help aid the country she used to call
home by emailing practitioners, businesses and organizations from the art world
to see if they could help. The resulting auction is a product of her hard work and
the generosity and talent of the artists whose work will be on sale. Although the
presence of high prestige pieces is sure to boost the amount raised grassroots
practitioners of all art forms are urged to donate work as well as the more
established artists. When asked who the auction was open to Saira said, “I am
also looking for local businesses, volunteers and artists to come forward to make
this event a real success and to raise as much money as possible for some of the
most vulnerable people. Please get in touch if you feel that you can help in any
way”. So far around 50 pieces of work have been donated from artists across the
globe with artists from as far a field as Canada and Zimbabwe showing support
for the cause.
A pre-auction event will be held between 6-8pm at Butterfly House, Normanton
on 17 March allowing members of the public a chance to view the work before
the main event on 19 March. The event will be taking place at Deda and will
include a sparkling reception. Potential buyers are able to place bids for the work
online between now up to 48 hours before the auction takes place. Tickets for
the event are priced at £10 and are redeemable against any purchase.
