DL: Where do you find the inspiration for your work?
BB: I think its all just in the air, cracking around.. in your brain, sometimes you don’t know where it comes from., it just floats around like some sort of intangible, exoplasmic, whimsy that you have to try and channel through your own mind. Sometimes you can and sometimes you cant. We are just syphers for an internal flame…
DL: Is there any voodoo involved?
BB: Yeah sometimes, and sometimes mojitos are involved…
DL: Very nice, so you are playing on the 28th, what should the audience expect with the show..?
BB: They expect me…..to be on stage telling jokes… surrounded by instruments on a show that has been touring for a while… which I know fairly well by now although there is a bit of it that I don’t; so it might go off the rails at any point. So there will be an element of slick professionalism punctuated by moments of bewildered chaos..
DL: So I gather that Thomas The Doubter is coming..can you tell us a bit about him and the other characters in the show?
BB: Well the thing about him is…. well… well he only came about because the show is about doubt.. if you’re talking about doubt…you have to talk to the man.. the daddy of all doubt.. Thomas.. who has got a bit of a bad wrap.. he seems to be immortalized in the language. It is unfair and I try to rehabilitate it somewhat… and I talk about the fact he inspired centuries of religious art.. there’s an art lecture in the show, he’s like a little shy meercat that could be teased out of his burrow….
DL: Oh I’m sure you will tease him out…..
BB: Oh yeah I will, I’ll flush him out…
DL: So how did Australia and New Zealand compare to the East Midlands?
BB: Well the audiences are very similar, the language is not a barrier, I don't have to change the show in any way, sometimes the local references make there way into the show... I suppose inevitably that happens. Sometimes you notice shows have a local feel to them... although I tend not to try and do that... I prefer not too, you know... turn up and say; whats a funny place round here then..? I find that a bit tedious! So I try and do my own thing, as good as I can... in every way that I can... and hopefully the funny will come out...
DL: Sure it will, so you do the show in other languages then?
BB: Actually I noticed there is quite a lot of other language in the show, there is quite a lot of French and German, there is quite a lot of German actual yeah,: There is Rammstein, there's Craftwork, Gary Newman in French, theres quite a lot of stuff actually, haven't got any Spanish in there, so maybe thats what I might do..?
DL: So yeah, just to finish it off..we’re going to be doing this as a podcast for Demon FM’s Culture Vulture show, so could you do some funny stabs?
BB: Right… so shall I do it now?… here we go
