The fact that I have nearly 7000 words to say about a four day trip in Marrakech suggests that it is not an ideal destination to visit if you are planning on going on holiday to relax. Marrakech is an experience, a fun one but also a stressful one. It’s going to be eventful unless you intend on staying within the realms of your hotel the entire time (which certainly some people did do). I consider this boring though and so my trip consisted of tears, guilt, psychedelic, laughter, nausea and rage, all..

The Temple to Perspective (right, foreground) as proposed by Alain de Botton and collaborators Tom Greenall and Jordan Hodgson. Image: Thomas Greenall & Jordan Hodgson
In a recent article for the Guardian, journalist Steve Rose wrote about Alain de Botton’s proposal for a temple for atheists, in his argument against the idea he wrote a theoretical list of secular alternatives which already exist:

Miranda July’s latest film The Future focuses on a couple of thirty somethings who come to the realisation after promising to adopt a sick, stray cat, that like many of us, they have not really done anything in their lives. In the month leading up to this impending responsibility they vow to try and do the things they should have done before. The problems come from figuring out what these things are, have they lost their way so much that they can no longer revert back to the freedom of youth or can t..

So, this review started out as a tame little cub of a piece, it has since turned into a roaring six foot long, Bengali tiger after a series of emails exchanged between myself, the editor of this magazine and the PR representative of a certain band who thanks to her have got themselves caught in the crossfire. My partner of five years is a drummer and guitarist who has been in bands throughout his teens and twenties and certainly as long as we’ve been together. He was in one particular band for seven ..

Isn’t it just lovely when two of your best friends get together, yeah, I mean it’s cool right? We get to hang out more often at the flat, order pizza, it’s fun, totally fun! I’ll tell you what’s not fun though, going on a trip up a mahoosive mountain and spending two nights on a train with two of your best friends who are getting together. Times are tough, you can’t just leave the room and go to bed when it looks like things are starting to get a bit cosy, not when the beds are half a metre..

This picture is not really representative of my time on the Yangtze, it’s a deluded lie but it is one that I’m determined to stick too. Despite the obvious time/lighting issues, it’s the picture that I thought I would be taking throughout the whole journey. For some reason I missed out on capturing the reality of this trip, possibly because at the time I thought if I did not record it, it was not happening.
Looking at the picture above you might imagine that I had just finished eating a lob..
