Great music. Great people. Great cause.

That’s Oxjam. This year’s celebration kicks

off with at the start of October with a plethora of exciting and varied fringe events

throughout the month (which we’ve lovingly renamed Oxtober), culminating with

the flagship Takeover Festival on October the 23rd.

The Takeover is focused down at the uber-hip Braunstone Gate, and will involve all

the wonderful venues that populate one of Leicester’s best loved streets. Each

venue will host a day long programme of music, covering all styles and genres. To

top it all off, the Road will be closed for the day. The festivities will spill out into the

street, with showcases from the various festivals that happen in and around

Leicester. It is at heart a family friendly community event, so those who don’t fancy

being drowned in sound in the venues can still come down enjoy the day. But it

doesn’t end there. Come the night, the sonic energy built up in Leicester’s West End,

will burst across the city, sending a musical shockwave that will light up some of

Leicester’s finest late night venues. All you night-oxen out there will be able jam

away till the early hours.

And the best thing about all this? All the money raised, every last penny, is donated

to Oxfam to help them continue their amazing work fighting poverty and injustice

across the world.

It’s you, Leicester, who makes this happen! The music and entertainment is provide

by the best Leicester musicians and artists that we all know and love (with a few

carefully selected hidden surprises!), and the event itself is only made possible by the

kindness and dedication of our talented, colourful and diverse community. So make
